Mr.Banboo

We saw in “A Printing Shop” the solution and products that were devised for vanishing traditional art craft shops amid the change for typography faced with digitized age. This time, the MIT Street Image is the tenth topic and we invite CEO of “Mr. Banboo”, a Taiwan designer brand of handmade glasses, to talk about where he has come from and his vision in Taiwan’s brand of handmade glasses.

Mr. Banboo ingeniously applies the “robust” characteristic of makino bamboo and mao bamboo and the patents including cut slots to develop a series of handmade bamboo glasses that combines life aesthetics and local cultures. Bamboos had been widely used in furniture and everyday life ware; however, subject to mass production and technological prevalence, they were gradually replaced by plastics and metals. Mr. Banboo allows bamboos, referred to as “green gold”, to come back to people’s everyday life and this dying traditional art and culture to live on.
